Pec Deck Machine

The pec deck, or chest fly machine, guides the arms through a fixed arc so you can focus entirely on squeezing the chest. It is stable, easy to learn and a safe way to add chest volume at the end of a workout.

1
Sit with your back flat against the pad, grips or arm pads at chest height.
2
Keep a slight bend in your elbows.
3
Bring your arms together in front of your chest, squeezing hard.
4
Return slowly to the stretched position — don't let the weight stack drop.
5
Keep your back pressed against the pad throughout, don't arch forward.
Isolates the chest with very little risk and no need to balance the weights. It is also a useful option for beginners learning to feel the chest working and for experienced lifters finishing a session.
Do 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps with a slow, controlled tempo and a one-second squeeze at the centre. Adjust the seat so the handles are at chest height, and keep the shoulder blades pulled back against the pad.
Do not allow the arms to travel far behind the torso at the open position, which strains the shoulder joint. Use a moderate weight and stop if the front of the shoulder hurts.
Make it harderslow tempo with a two-second pause at the squeeze.
Make it easierlighter weight with a shorter range.
