Treadmill — Sprint Intervals

Sprint intervals alternate short bursts of all-out running with recovery walks or jogs. They are one of the most time-efficient forms of cardio and a classic high-intensity interval method for building fitness and speed.

1
Set the machine to the target intensity/incline/resistance level.
2
Keep your posture upright — avoid leaning heavily on the handles or console.
3
Maintain a steady, controlled pace matching the target effort.
4
Breathe rhythmically — don't hold your breath during harder efforts.
5
Cool down gradually rather than stopping abruptly.
Boosts fitness quickly, burns a lot of energy in a short time and improves running speed and power. Short sprints also train the fast-twitch fibres in the legs that slower running does not.
Try 8 to 10 rounds of 20 to 30 seconds hard with 60 to 90 seconds easy recovery, after a warm-up of 5 to 10 minutes. Limit sessions to once or twice a week because the intensity is high.
High intensity and a higher injury risk, so it is for experienced exercisers. Warm up thoroughly, use the safety clip, and stop at any sign of hamstring pain or dizziness.
Make it hardershorten the rest or lengthen the sprint.
Make it easieruse a fast run rather than an all-out sprint.

How often can I do sprint intervals?

Once or twice a week with rest days between, because the intensity is high and recovery takes longer.

Is sprinting on a treadmill safe?

It can be if you warm up, use the safety clip and are experienced. Beginners should try a bike or a lower intensity first.
